Benin Republic Yoruba Monarchs Write President Over Sunday Igboho Extradition

Yoruba monarch in Benin Republic, on Monday, presented a letter to the President of the country, Patrice Talon, over the detainment of Yoruba Nation fomenter, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

It was gathered that the rulers’ letter was submitted to President Talon after his meeting with Nigeria’s Ambassador to Benin Republic, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd.).

It was reported that Buratai met with President Talon during the authority show of his letter of assurance.

Buratai’s gathering with the Beninese President happened in the midst of the arranged extradition of wanted Yoruba

country activist, Igboho.

Duplicate of the letter was likewise allegedly submitted to the nation’s Minister of Interior and the Senate President.

The monarch were said to have revealed to President Talon not to take side with Nigeria, asking him “not to permit the nation to be utilized by Nigeria to score cheap political point.”

The letter was mutually endorsed by the Onikoyi Abesan-an, Alajase of Ajase land, Onimase of Imase land, Oniohorige of Ohori, Onnilaase of Ilase land, Onikrake of Kraka land from Seme town, and Alajuwon of Ajuwon land, who is the President of the Council of Obas.

The representative for the Aare Onakankafo of Yorubaland, Kehinde Aderemi, said his chief, Gani Adams, had been educated regarding the Benin Republic rulers’ activity.

Aderemi expressed, “Indeed, they called him (Adams) today to give an update. He praised their activities.

“Likewise, designations of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, who were in Benin Republic on Monday to notice the court procedures, have offered criticisms to their lords.”

“Indeed, the Ooni was given the criticism very quickly, however no further move has been made,” one of his aide said.
